CarbonLogic  is Cyest Corporation’s enterprise modelling platform that forms the core component of our Carbon Suite of software.  It allows business users to build a mathematical representation of any enterprise, by modelling the systemic (cause/effect) relationships between variables that make up that enterprise.  Users can therefore through the rapid configuration of multiple different scenarios quantify the outcome of different choices or changes on a range of variables relevant to their enterprise.

Using the Gartner definitions, CarbonLogic  therefore enables enterprises to implement corporate performance management (CPM) applications in the fields of budgeting, planning and forecasting (BP&F), profitability modelling and optimisation and strategy management.

CarbonLogic  was borne from many years of experience of building client specific enterprise optimisation models on different platforms available in the market, and encountering a series of shortfalls that were prevalent in these platforms with respect to enterprise modelling.  CarbonLogic  is therefore unique in that from the outset it was conceived and designed to solve enterprise modelling problems in any industry informed by years of Cyest practical domain experience.

In addition, CarbonLogic  has been used to build specific product offerings (i.e. applications) that address different domain problems.  The diagram below shows the product suite on top of CarbonLogic  that can be quickly configured to solve the respective enterprise challenges.

Technology

CarbonLogic
leverages two well established and proven modelling frameworks and combines them into one platform in a way that no other platform or product does.  These are:

  1. Object orientated modelling – a framework that revolutionised the way software is developed
  2. Dimensional modelling – a framework pioneered to allow for the modelling of very large data-sets within the date-warehouse context
  3. Templates – a framework that allows the customisation and development of standard templates that can be used to develop models. In this way intellectual property can be ‘packaged’ for re-use.

To achieve its objective, CarbonLogic comprises of the following core components of software:

  1. The engine (CarbonLogic) – which contains and calculates a model
  2. Graphite – the user environment to build templates and models
  3. UIP – the user interface environment that is configured to function on top of templates and models and contains all the input and reporting components

It is built on the latest version of the .NET platform.  Its architectural design allows it to run as a standalone desktop application or as server-based enterprise level deployment.  The platform’s data and file storage structure is optimised for performance and efficient memory management.  It provides an open interface to import and export data into relational database structures.

Value Proposition

CarbonLogic  was built to allow organisations to maximise shareholder value by integrating the best modelling practices into various levels of the overall corporate performance management processes. To this end it is designed with the following objectives in mind:

  •  To allow modelling IP to be packaged and re-used within and across organisations by means of modelling templates and the inherent object oriented modelling
  • To allow business analysts to build robust and scalable multi-user enterprise models without the need for intervention from software developers
  • To allow the user to be free from the typical constraints imposed by spreadsheet-based models
  • To facilitate the rapid building of highly maintainable models through the use of templates and objects
  • To provide highly transparent reporting and auditing functions by exposing modelling logic, components and data in simple ways.

As such CarbonLogic users are able to build robust, complex and scalable enterprise models within days; freeing up their time to focus on planning and scenario analysis in order to assist management in making the best decisions for the enterprise.

Benefits

CarbonLogic was built to allow organisations to maximise shareholder value by integrating the best modelling practices into various levels of the overall corporate performance management processes.

To this end it is designed with the following objectives:

  1. To allow modelling IP to be packaged and reused within and across organisations through the use of modelling templates and the inherent object oriented modelling
  2. To allow business analysts to build robust and scalable multiuser enterprise models without the need for intervention from software developers, whilst at the same time being freed from the typical constraints imposed by spreadsheet-based models.
  3. To facilitate the rapid building of highly maintainable models through the use of templates and objects
  4. To provide highly transparent reporting and auditing functions by exposing the modelling logic, components and data in simple ways.

As such CarbonLogic modellers can build robust, complex and scalable enterprise models in days.  Their energies and time is freed up from the usual technicalities of modelling and can be focused on planning and scenario analysis to assist management with making the best decisions.

Key Features

Modelling through templates: build tailor made models at template level to then:

  • Instantiate multiple instances of objects that inherit their logic from the template.
  • Make changes at template level and these will automatically propagate to the instantiated objects.
  • Re-use modelling IP by publishing templates to a central knowledge base which is searchable.
  • Enforce modelling standards through the use of templates.

Inherent separation of model structure, formulae and data provides for the ability to:

  • Easily audit the model at any of these three levels.
  • Provide change control reports for data, formulae or model structure.
  • Easily extract data from one model and transfer it to another.

Multi scenario modelling:

  • the dimensional capabilities of CarbonLogic  ic make it a very simple exercise for a modeller to expand a model to be scenario based - for any number of scenarios - without breaking or needing to alter any of the formula logic.

Hierarchical representations:

  • CarbonLogic   inherently understands hierarchical representations (for example, region, country, city, suburb, etc.) and allows manipulation of data across hierarchies.

Desktop and enterprise deployment: CarbonLogic  can be deployed as a desktop application or enterprise wide server application, allowing users to collaborate and share models.

Separation of modelling and reporting platforms.

Data Integration: CarbonLogic  open data formats allow it to integrate with transactional systems, data-warehouses and even Microsoft Excel or text based file formats to import and export data.

XBRL support: the next version of CarbonLogic   will support the widely accepted XBRL financial reporting standard.

Ability for business users to build a wide variety of enterprise models through an intuitive user interface called Graphite.
